Always 182 – An Analysis of Always by Blink 182

Blink 182’s self-titled album is nothing more than a pop that doesn’t care anymore. That’s familiar with the Enema of the State and Take off Your Pants and Jacket. However, I think their self-titled album will be remembered as one of the greatest collection of songs of its time, and one that supports the idea. That is “Always”.

Like most tunes on Blink 182’s serious album, “Always” is based on the awkwardness of a lost relationship. No more anger and insults like before in Dude Ranch or Enema of the State, but more familiar sadness that most teenagers can relate to. Those familiar sentiments are likely to be what support Blink 182’s huge fan base around the world.

From the beginning of “Always” Tom Delonge sang, “I’ve been here a few times before and I really knew we were dying.” This line defines the speaker as a realist in a struggling relationship. Whoever Blink 182 created, they know that things are not going well.

Delonge concludes the first episode of “Always” with “So here I am. I’m trying. So here I am. Are you ready?” Obviously, the speaker does not want to end the relationship, but “Are you ready?” It almost makes me think that couples may not feel the same way about their current situation. Sometimes I wonder what the true meaning of Blink 182 is.

The remaining songs basically touch on the same topic over and over again about wanting to fix a relationship that is about to end. “I’ll admit I was wrong if you tell me,” says Blink 182, a new line to use. I say this because it sheds some light on the inability of men to characterize communication issues. So to the men. Listening “always” by Blink 182 can save your relationship!

It’s not enough that “Always” is a good song to listen to, but Blink 182 creates one of the most original music videos I’ve ever seen. If anyone has watched a similar video where the screen is cut into multiple parts playing the same scene, please let me know. I’m sure that one is great too.

Just watching Hoppus, Delonge, and Barker stumble upon limbs and alternating gestures is cool because no Blink 182 gets the same reaction from the “Always” actress. And as I saw it when Travis Barker popped his head out from under the bed, I laughed a little.

“Always” feels smooth and fluent in it, similar to other Blink 182 songs. They do a great job of adding more subtleties to a song as it works over time to increase the audience’s interest. If you pay attention to the final chorus of the song, you will notice that there is a phantom keyboard player. Pretty?

So here’s another lively tune by Blink 182 that speaks to troubled American youth again. Replay of similar lyric content sometimes seems indispensable, but it is something that sells and makes me love the band in person. “Always” is a simple song with great meaning, great video and catchy tunes. They did it again.
