How to Supplement Suzuki Violin School – Book One

Suzuki Violin School: A book has been the foundation of violin education since it was introduced in the 1970s. One of the first books to rely on arranging songs in a more difficult sequence, it was a favorite of violinist Suzuki and not Suzuki either.

But this book has certain limitations that can make adding to its content a good idea. The main problem is that there are only seventeen songs in the first Suzuki book, and at the end of the book, students are expected to play works by Bach and Schumann in editing, but still difficult to organize – really jump from track to track. Folk music and five works written by Shinichi Suzuki.

In addition, many teachers felt a greater gap in difficulty between the 12th and 13th pieces, as well as between the 13th and 14th. After 12 easy pieces, including simple and original tunes and easy to play by Suzuki itself, came the 13th – Minuet 1 by JS Bach. The book contains 80 familiar songs, many of which are only 2 to 3 feet long. Not only do these simple songs prevent students from getting bored with long and unfamiliar pieces, they also allow them to master new works in a short amount of time. This slower speed allows students to develop more robust techniques without rushing them into too difficult a task. .

While the Suzuki Book One is very expensive, it is my opinion that difficult songs are introduced too quickly and there are not enough familiar and easy songs that students like to play. So adding it with extra easy songs can prevent students from picking up bad habits that can result from playing too much procrastination too soon.
