Music Alphabet and Staff

The musical alphabet is made up of seven letters.

These are the letters that are repeatedly used on the keyboard to name white keys. As you play the music alphabet forward, you move the keyboard to the right:

ABCDEF G. So when you play the music alphabet backwards you scroll down the keyboard to the left:

GFEDCB a.

Practical instructions:

1. Play the music alphabet both forward and backward in different places on the keyboard using the second finger of both hands. Speak the letters aloud as you play.

2. Memorize the musical alphabet forward and backward.

It is easy to find white keys and know their names when you search for a set of 2 and 3 black keys.

A is between the 2nd and 3rd keys in all 3 black suits.

B is to the right of the three sets of black keys.

C is to the left of the 2 black keys.

D is in the middle of two sets of black keys.

E is to the right of the black key set 2.

F is to the left of the three sets of black keys.

G is located between the first and second keys in the three sets of black keys.

Practical instructions:

1. Close your eyes.

2. Touch the black keys 2 and 3 with one hand. With the other hand, find and name the white keys nearby.

3. Memorize pictures of the keyboard.

Play Legato

Legato means to play smoothly by connecting the sounds. To play legato, one finger plays while the other finger plays the next note. Slur is a curved line above or below two or more different notes to play legato (smooth connection). Slogans are used to express musical ideas called phrases. Gently raise your hand at the end of a sentence.

Play Staccato

Staccato means short play, split sound. The dot above or below the note means Sticato. To play staccato, give tips immediately after play. Another name I like to call staccato is “Hot Potatoes!” Leave a note soon!

Binding notes

A bond is a curved line that connects notes of the same pitch (notes on the same line or space.) Play only the first note and hold it for the value of both notes.

Example:

Half note + whole note = 6 beats

2 beats + 4 times = 6 times

Entire Notes + Entire Notes

4 Beats + 4 beats = 8 Beats

Staff

Employees have lines and spaces. Notes are written on lines or in spaces. The staff has 5 rows and 4 places. So notes are placed on lines or spaces. Line number from bottom to top. And number between bottom and top.

Clef sign

The badge should be used at the beginning of each employee. There are three clef or G clef. The tail wraps around the second row. Loud voices were written on three employees.

Bass clef or F clef on the 4th line with dots on either side of the 4th line. A low pitch is written on the bass navel.

Senior staff

The bass staff and the three voices are connected by brackets to form a large staff. I explain to my students that it is like the left hand grasping the right hand. A short line is added between the staff for center C.

So when you are in a music store looking for books to buy, always look for the Grand Staff if you want to play the piano with both hands. Intermediate and advanced players search for fake books where they are given notes, melodies and chords for the left hand.

Whether you play smoothly or piece by piece, learning the alphabet, music and practicing where they are on the keyboard is Enjoyment. As you learn to read notes, you will have that gift for a lifetime and will be able to play any style of music with a little practice. Enjoy reading and playing notes. Eventually you will get stuck not reading all the music notes and rely on more listening for progress … and that’s another story.
