The Groundhog Day Technique

I found an interesting technique to help improve my life. Part of this method I borrowed from Neville Goddard’s Awakening Imagination.

She has a chapter on forgiving yourself and recreating your day in your imagination as you wish. What I have learned over the past 16 years is that visualization and imagination are very powerful. By closing my eyes and seeing the day the way I want to, I am in a sense rewriting my reality. It’s like playing Groundhog Day.

In that film, the main character, Bill Murray, constantly experiences “Gown Pig Day”. He wakes up every morning at 6 a.m. to the exact same music, and it’s Groundhog Day again. This is one of my favorite movies. He goes through many different experiences. He realized that he didn’t need to suffer any consequences because he would start all over again the next day.

Therefore, he indulges himself in various foods and pastries. He will find out the woman’s identity and trick her into believing they went to the same high school so she can sleep with him. Later in the day, he breaks the law and goes to jail, but in the morning he wakes up again to the hotel and its Groundhog Day.

Then he tries to kill himself. He does this many times, but the next day he wakes up in the same bed. After one day and hundreds of days, he begins to transform himself into a better person. He starts rescuing people, taking piano lessons, and learning the names of everyone in town. In the end, he can get his daughter, but he abandons his goal and is just doing good deeds all day long by fraud. He likes her because he has become a man. Before, he tried to seduce her, knowing all her interests, but she didn’t fall for it.

Great movie and has some funny moments. I don’t understand why people say it’s a comedy. It is actually a drama and a deep spiritual story.

Basically, we have our own Groundhog days every time we wake up. We can choose to live our lives and make the most of them or be like Bill Murray; very negative.

It has nothing to do with morality. We don’t do things just because they’re right, but because they bring us the most enjoyment and satisfaction out of life. Try not to fall into the slavery of false morals. Define your morals. Morality is a human creation; sometimes they are right and sometimes all they do is restrict your freedom unnecessarily.

To learn more about this, read Harry Brown’s excellent book, How I Found Freedom in an Unfree World. I have given this book to many friends – it is liberating. There are many concepts that can change your entire life. I like to re-read it at least once a year.

In other words, you are not improving yourself for any moral reason, but because it will bring you more happiness. Sometimes we think we’re happy by watching TV or doing other things that have little impact on achieving our goals. However, if you can do something meaningful in your life, you will enjoy your time more and feel a great sense of self-worth.

So, among other things, the Groundhog Day Technique will help you do just that. Just imagine your day the way you want it to be. Is there something you wish you hadn’t done or said? Do you wish you could work on a project without watching TV for 4 hours? Just look at your day and see parts of your day as you wish. Make it a reality in your imagination. Even if you receive negative news, try to think of it in a positive light. This is not the time to be realistic because your reality is created first in your imagination.

Even if the event does happen, you can be stung by visualizing a positive outcome. Say you had an argument with someone at work. You can visualize this experience as continuing without confrontation. The funny thing is, your imagination can affect the other person on a subconscious level. I have proven this many times in my life. We are all spiritually connected. If you send out positive vibrations, only good things will come back to you. You don’t have to react to situations – instead, you can create them.

If you imagine bad things, bad things will come back to you. Don’t be too quick to get angry because it will come back to haunt you. Your thoughts are very powerful, so you have to be careful with them. Be careful how you talk to yourself and your internal dialogue. What you say manifests in some form in your life. It can simply manifest itself in limited thinking and thus limited results.

The second part of the technique: I start in the morning imagining how I want to spend the day. You can imagine what you are planning to do. You can also imagine a day of meeting people or having an adventure. If you expect these things to happen, you will have more opportunities to attract them into your life. You can even tell yourself that you’re going to have a great day. Try it, it works.

I am getting great results. I am more successful. Plus, my day is now full of imaginative magic. I’m living the life I envisioned and it’s so rewarding. Visualization is like programming a computer, except you’re programming your own mind. Despite initial resistance or bad habits, this is a great way to get you to do more of what you really want to do.

I just read a short inspirational book and then visualize for 10-15 minutes. Then, at night, when you go to sleep, you make another visualization and recreate the day as you wish. But as I’m getting better, I don’t need to change my day anymore because I’m enjoying my day more.

You can make the technique even shorter by doing it in bed at night while sleeping. Then in the morning, as you lie in bed, visualize your day going the way you want it to. Even if you spend 5 minutes a day in the morning and in the evening, the technique is effective.

Another thing you can do is look back at past events that are troubling you. They can be years old. However, if you’re holding on to blame and anger over past events, it can hold you back from making progress in your present life. You need to forgive in order to move on with your life. Anger and guilt can lead to conflict and negative consequences in your life. That’s why it’s not good to argue and be pessimistic. You attract into your life what you imagine and you attract what you believe. Why not be an optimist? By doing this, you will find that you have a more positive and magical life.
