Final Four Basketball and Spring Break Fun in Downtown Indy

During the first week of April, downtown Indianapolis will transform into every basketball fan’s fantasy. From April 1st to 5th, there are plenty of opportunities to cheer on your favorite team. No ticket, no problem! With more than 300 restaurants and bars and several cheering events, the city center is the place to watch every minute of the tournament. Use this information as a guide to optimize your downtown basketball experience.

Women’s final four matches:

• April 3, 7, 9:30 p.m. – National Semifinals (Conseco Fieldhouse)

• April 5, 8:30 p.m. – State Championship (Conseco Field)

Even if you don’t have tickets to the game, there are plenty of ways to watch the Final Four.

Fan Events:

• April 1 – 3, various times – Tourney Town (Indiana Convention Center) FREE

Tourney Town is the main hub for all the fans and community events of the Final Four. Enjoy interactive basketball and clinics, children’s entertainment, coach and former player autograph sessions, souvenirs and merchandise. It’s the Center Stage concert venue that offers FREE concerts every day. Fans will experience great music in a festival-style atmosphere complete with food, retail experiences, concessions and fan-exciting activities. Kelly Pickler is performing FREE on April 2nd!

• April 1, 11:30 a.m. – POWERADE NCAA Youth Clinics (Tourney Town) FREE

Boys and girls ages 8-16 attend NCAA Youth Clinics to learn and improve their basketball and life skills with women’s basketball coaches, student-athletes and basketball professionals from around the country. This event is FREE and open to the public. Registration is required.

• April 2nd

o 8:00am – 4Kay Run hydrated with POWERADE Zero (Motor Speedway)

Join the fight against women’s cancer by participating in the 4Kay Run, named after North Carolina State University head women’s basketball coach Kay Yough.

o 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. – NCAA Girls Journalism Workshop (Conseco Fieldhouse and Tourney Town)

Participants watch the women’s Final Four practice, participate actively in press conferences, and learn radio, television, and blogging techniques. To that end, all participants will receive official NCAA credentials.

o 10:45 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. – Open Practice and Team Autographs (Conseco Fieldhouse) FREE

Attendees will be able to watch team training sessions and get autographs on commemorative posters from student-athletes and coaches who made it to the Women’s Final 4.

15:45 – 16:15 – Battle of the Bands (Conseco Fieldhouse) FREE

Immediately following the open practice, the cheerleaders make up the four organizations that represent the school’s spirit in this scrimmage.

4:30 p.m. – WBCA High School All-American Game (Conseco Fieldhouse)

This prestigious event features some of the most talented female high school basketball players.

o 17:30 – FREE concert by Kelly Pickler (Tourney Town) on Center Stage

Casey Jamerson of Indiana will be the guest speaker at 4:30 p.m

• April 3rd

o 7:30 a.m. – FREE Sunrise Service with Indy Racing Ministry (Artsgarden)

The service will feature pastors and musicians and is open to all worshipers and community members.

o 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. – Special Olympics Youth Clinic (Tourney Town)

Youth participating in the Special Olympics will learn and improve sports, physical activity, and life skills.

o 2pm – Circle City Dribble (Conseco Fieldhouse and Tourney Town) FREE

Youth 18 and under are invited to drill through downtown Indianapolis. Participants receive a t-shirt and basketball.

14:30 – 15:30 – NCAA Pep Rally (Tourney Town) FREE

Highlights include performances by cheerleading bands, cheerleaders and mascots from all the Final Four teams.

• April 4 and 5, 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. – Tour (City Center)

Visit Indianapolis’ major landmarks and attractions.

• April 5, 11:30 pm – NCAA/WBCA Coaches’ Trophy Presentation (The Westin Grand Ballroom) FREE

Celebrate the 2011 NCAA Women’s Basketball National Championship and Head Coach’s victory. FREE and open to the public.
