Let me tell you, it’s not always easy and it takes practice to get the right mindset. So don’t get frustrated or disappointed if it takes a while. Remember, it’s a game and it’s meant to be fun. Why are you paying a lot of money to hit a little white ball in a little tin cup over there?
The first thing is to find out where your head is at least half an hour before you start your bike. Are you angry with your boss or frustrated with the kids? Did you just have an argument with your spouse or a crazy person trying to run you off the road? Are you frustrated because you are leading the ball or playing with your friends for big money? So, what can you do to get in the right mindset? For me, it’s important to be relaxed, confident, and have positive energy flowing through my body. You can be different. My question to you is how did you feel inside when you played your best round of golf? Think back to that time and place. All was well in the world, wasn’t it? But how was that right? How did you feel? Are you relaxed? Were you confident? did you have fun Have you ever believed in the golf swing? Have you enjoyed your golfing partners?
Here are some things I’ve noticed about myself when I play my best rounds.
“I could feel the excitement of playing and how nervous I was in the back of my mind
“I was happy playing golf with my friends and I wasn’t worried that they might laugh at me if I sliced the ball.
“I felt an uneasy feeling inside me
“I felt confident, energized, and happy to be out on the golf course among tree lined fairways and beautifully manicured greens.
“I felt like I had nothing to worry about and joked around with my golf mates
“I felt the magic of being alive and knew instinctively that I was going to hit the golf ball clean.
“My mind was not filled with a million thoughts, but focused and quiet
“My body is rested, rested and healthy
“I was in the zone, for lack of a better word
Let’s say you have a nervous breakdown where you have eighteen million thoughts, mostly negative. How does a golfer get from point A to point B? Again, if this is your pre-golf routine, don’t expect to change it overnight. It’s a process.
