Kids’ Birthday Party Ideas for Boys: DIY Decoration Tips for Pirate, Cowboy and Astronaut Themes

We all want our children to cherish the memories of every birthday party. In fact, as parents, we tend to panic and blow our budget on fancy themes and costumes.

But sometimes the simplest ideas are still the best. Each generation has its favorite trends, characters, and toy lines, but some basic concepts will remain timeless. Fortunately, most of them are easy to decorate on a budget.

Many boys (and – let’s be honest – a fair share of girls) will have a special love for the seven seas, the wild west, the prehistoric era or outer space. What do they have in common? a sense of adventure; the chance to recreate daring and dangerous deeds from home or the playground.

How? The main thing is to remember that these themes are full of recognizable and wonderful images for your child. Even the simplest decorations and accessories will be imaginative! As an organizer, your role is to create imagination and excitement. Your young guests’ minds will fill in for the rest!

Pirates

Finding pirate accessories isn’t hard. Plastic hooks, scissors, eye patches, and hats are readily and inexpensively available at almost any toy store. That being said, there is always room for improvisation. If your guests don’t have a pirate captain’s hat, they can make their own from newspaper.

A few popular Jolly Roger pirate flags, whether purchased or printed, will go a long way; decorated from the walls or sprinkled on invitations.

Where there are pirates, there are always crooks. A few packets of chocolate gold coins piled on the table will look surprisingly close to real pirate gold! If you’re really ambitious, you can make real-looking gold bars out of gold foil!

For extra decor or lighting, paper lanterns are a great way to add extra color and character, very inexpensively. Try alternating red and black circular paper lanterns to enhance your theme.

And don’t forget the orange slices to avoid bugs!

Cowboys

Again, the first step is to raid the toy store for some basic costume accessories: cowboy hats, Sherriff’s badges, and plastic guns will be useful for young western fans. Unfortunately for wallets, there aren’t many creative ways around this. (If you think of something, I’d love to hear it!)

A cowboy needs a horse. etc Monty Python and the Holy Grail A hilarious demonstration of how both halves of a coconut can do a surprisingly convincing job of simulating the sound of galloping!

The right music can add a great atmosphere to a themed birthday party. Western movie scores are so widely recognized that even the youngest Wild West fans have heard them recited or transcribed, or heard their favorite TV show or movie. The work of the Italian composer Ennio Morricone is the most recognized. The theme of his song “The Good, The Bad, The Ugly” is a familiar tune is Archetypal wild west music, usually found in most bargain bins on “Best western movie theme” compilations. (Hopefully lots of dads will nod in agreement!)

We have already talked about ways to generate pirate gold. In a different setting, you can use the exact same trick to decorate your kid’s party with the loot from a bank heist!

Astronauts

Rule #1: tin foil is your friend. It can turn a gift into an alien artifact; punch bowl to spaceship! It’s also incredibly reflective, allowing you to experiment with lighting.

Again, paper lanterns are a great and affordable way to add a little atmospheric flare. Or dig deep into your Christmas supplies. Holiday tree lights add a more exotic touch to this environment.

For a young space fanatic, learning astronomy facts can be a lot of fun. If the birthday boy has learned a thing or two about space, try holding a small competition with prizes. “What is the largest planet?” “Who was the first man on the moon?” Don’t miss this rare opportunity to make science fun!

Freeze-dried ice cream is always an exciting treat for any young space fan. Even if they didn’t like the taste, the fact that it was real astronaut food would more than make up for it!
