Don’t Miss the Fun – Filled Easter Parades and Egg Hunts

Fortunately, the cold days of winter are behind us and spring is almost here. There’s nothing quite like the sound of birds chirping or the smell of blooming flowers to remind you that the blizzards and blizzards will give way to some much-awaited sunshine to set the stage for an Easter egg hunt or parade. Expected to draw thousands, these events will take center stage in the nation’s hottest spring break destinations, from vibrant New York City to historic New Orleans. Either way, people of all ages will enjoy spring fun. Read about the many parades and egg hunts in major cities in April or earlier.

New York City

If you’re planning to be in New York City on Easter Sunday (April 4), head to 49th to 57th Fifth Avenue for the Easter Parade and Easter Day, an annual tradition dating back to the Civil War. Join hundreds of people walking down the street. Unlike most parades, this one does not have marching bands or floats. Instead, people come from all over the world to wear the fanciest Easter hats imaginable. From Civil War era costumes to animal prints, there’s a range of cute and whimsical costumes you’ll likely find your pets wearing, and you’ll be just like the pet owners. The Easter Parade and Easter Day will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Besides, free entry makes the event fun and easy on the pocket.

San Francisco

Bay Area travelers can enjoy the 19th annual Union Street Spring Festival and Easter Parade on Easter Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The parade, expected to draw 30,000 people, will feature live music, inflatables, climbing walls, vintage cars, stilt walkers, children’s rides and a hands-on activity area. Those on hand can enjoy outdoor dining while watching the parade unfold between Gow and Fillmore Streets. Families call it San Francisco’s Biggest Little Parade.

Washington DC

If kids love Easter egg rolls, they’ll love this year’s hard-boiled colored egg rolls on the White House lawn. The White House Easter Egg Roll will be held in our nation’s capital on April 5 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The tradition dates back to 1878, when President Rutherford B. Hayes announced that neighborhood children would be allowed to gather and play on the White House lawn. After the Congress, Easter concerts banned them from the Capitol grounds. The Egg Roll is currently the White House’s largest public event, attracting approximately 40,000 visitors each year. This year’s theme is “Ready, Set, Go!” – aims to promote health and wellness. Children 12 and younger and their families can enjoy live music, cooking classes and other activities on the White House South Lawn for free.

Miami

Miami’s tropical climate makes it a great family vacation destination year-round. If you’re not planning on soaking up the rays on Miami Beach or strolling the unique shops of Ocean Drive this Easter, take the kids to the Miami Metrozoo. The event is free and runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 3 and 4, where kids 12 and under can have their picture taken with the Easter Bunny, enjoy a fun house ride and listen to great music. The whole family will have fun at the Miami Beach Egg Hunt, April 2nd through Sunday, April 4th. In addition to the park’s regular shows and exhibits, kids will enjoy five different types of “Bunny-palo za.” acres of biking, skating, bounce houses and other fun activities.

New Orleans

The 6th annual Easter Parade, also known as the St. Charles Easter Parade, will march up and down St. Charles Avenue on Easter Sunday at 12:15 p.m. The parade starts at Emeril’s Delmonico Restaurant, goes around Lee Circle, up Cadiz Street, and back to the restaurant. Feel free to display your Easter decorations while you ride in the supplied carriage or convertible wagon. Best of all, there will be throwbacks and surprises for the audience, so stay tuned! Dinosaur lovers, don’t miss Audobon Zoo’s Dinosaur Egg Hunt on Sundays, March 27th and March 28th. Kids can make dinosaur crafts, eat snacks and hunt for their own dinosaur eggs. Or, if you’re into running, you can take part in the annual Crescent City Classic on Easter Saturday. This 10k road race takes runners along Esplanade, a beautiful tree-lined boulevard at the edge of the French Quarter, ending in a beautiful city park. There will be a post-race party, costume contest and other events. In fact, there’s more to New Orleans than Mardi Gras!

Easter comes only once a year and includes egg hunts and parades. Are you planning to go in search of Easter treats this year or join the thousands of people walking the busy streets?
