Guitars – Washburn

Washburn Guitars doesn’t have nearly the same reputation as guitar giants like Gibson and Fender, but this little company has been around for a long time and makes quality products. We’ll take a look at the Washburn company, a little history, and the guitars they produced.

What most people don’t realize is that Washburn itself has been around since 1883. Electric guitars were not manufactured at the time, but other fine instruments were manufactured. By the 1920s, Washburn had become a music center in its own right. At the time, it was considered the first destination for African Americans. It was in the Mississippi Delta that the Delta Blues originated. As the guitar industry began to flourish, Washburn became the go-to guitar maker for blues-obsessed musicians. It seemed like a really natural progression given Washburn’s roots.

Washburn manufactures a complete line of electric and acoustic guitars and basses. They also make banjos, mandolins and amplifiers.

For electric guitars, Washburn offers a wide variety of them. There are popular Washburn Hollow Body guitars like HB35, HB30, HB32 DM, J5, J4, J3 and HB15. Then there’s Scott Ian’s signature series of electric guitars, including the SI 75 and SI 70. The features of these guitars alone are too numerous to list. And the price tag that comes with them (over $2,500) is out of reach for the average musician.

In 1999, Washburn decided to make a guitar for the 21st century. And that’s how they came up with the Idol series. These guitars span a wide spectrum of looks and sounds, including Aaron Fink, Sonny Mayo, Joe Don Rooney, and many others.

Other electric guitars in their line include the N Series with Maya Pro, the N Series numbered N1 through N6, the X Series featuring a really cool looking Flame Maple Face Eraser, and the Anarchy Graphic Series featuring classical guitars. V model WV 16, X 16 and WI 16. These are some of the most amazing guitars ever made.

But we’ve only scratched the surface here. In addition to a large line of electric guitars, Washburn manufactures an equally long line of acoustic guitars. These include the $2,400 USA Acoustics; Jumbo Acoustics have a big sound and plenty of extra volume; The Dreadnought series is handcrafted from premium woods and materials; Folk-style guitars with solid spruce tops, great for recording; their traditional classical acoustic, one of the oldest guitars they make; NV guitars are designed for professionals, with price tags over $1,000 and touring guitars ranging from $100 to $500.

Washburn offers guitars for almost every type of musician. They may not have the same name as Gibson or Fender, but they make great guitars.
