Book Writing and Publishing Tips

Writing is both a skill and an art. If you don’t have both, it won’t be easy to write a book, no matter how good your content is. Even if you have the skills and artistic flair, there are many other factors to consider if you want people to use your book.

I will tell you the important factors to consider when writing and publishing a book for you. Additionally, I’ll explain steps you can take to be better prepared.

Before I proceed with the steps, let’s start with the factors first.

WRITING SKILL

I don’t mean to discourage those who can’t write. However, to be honest, a good book requires a good script first. If you have a really great story to tell or an idea to sell, get ready to write it for ghostwriters. Many famous people do and have done it.

But good writing doesn’t require you to be a great writer. You have editors to make your text look good and beautiful. All you need is basic writing skills, including proper grammar, punctuation, and proper spelling. Of course, this includes knowing how to type and use a computer.

Believe me, some books that shocked me have been revised and edited. Some are beyond the writing skills of an elementary school student.

ARTISTRY

Unless you’re writing something technical or academic, writing a book requires a lot of creativity. In order for your readers to enjoy your story, you need to be able to drive. There must be highs and lows, tears and joys, successes and failures, and all the other emotional triggers that draw readers into your book.

ORGANIZED POLICY

Some people have organized thoughts; others are not. For those who do not possess this gift, there is a way to organize their thoughts, and that is to learn to focus. Planning is a key component here, and I’ll explain it in the “steps” section.

Meditation helps a lot to organize your thoughts. Prayer and Bible reading are the best meditation for me while playing an instrument. Walking outside and enjoying nature helps me focus on personal time.

RELATED

Your book will do well if your target audience can relate to it. This means your topic must be relevant. There’s no point in writing a book about winter if you’re writing for a group that hasn’t experienced that kind of weather. By the way, you should know your market position before writing. When writing, always consider how they will feel and how they will react. In short, put yourself in their shoes as a reader.

PURPOSE

Without a goal, your book will have no direction. You may not be able to start typing it. And even if you start it, you may not be able to finish it. Your book’s purpose should be the foundation and main source of inspiration for your writing.

The following questions will help you determine the purpose of your book.

Why am I writing this book?

What inspired you to write this book?

Who inspired you to write this book?

What will this book give me?

What will this book give others?

PERIOD

Time is of the essence when it comes to book publishing, and even more so if your topic or subject matter needs to be relevant NOW. Consider the best season to publish your book. Is it better to launch during or before Christmas? Would it be wiser to be in bookstores by summer? It all depends on your topic and marketing strategy. I will explain this in more detail in the steps below.

RESOURCES

When planning to write a book, it is better to prepare all the necessary resources, so that you will need more money. You can work towards your money goals, but at least you’ll have something to work towards. I know writers who have finished their books but had no money to publish them, and that is certainly disappointing.

Yes, you can walk by faith, which is what I did in the first edition of my book. But that faith is matched with determination, and it works.

PROMISE

I know some people who said they were going to write a book, and years went by and they didn’t start writing anything. Some started writing but got distracted halfway through and never came back. Others are talking about the second or third book without even finishing the first.

The best way to do this is to start when you’re ready to go all out. “Strike the iron while it’s hot”…and move on. Don’t waste your energy.

Now that we’ve explained the factors involved in writing a book, let’s get down to the steps. These steps actually revolve around the factors I’ve discussed. These steps will help you avoid regrettable mistakes and increase your chances of success.

1. Have a general theme in your book.

Having a theme will help you create your title, outline, and all of your content. With a theme, it’s easier to narrow things down. For example, if your topic is “women,” you can narrow it down to “married women” and “Christian married women.” From there, you can narrow down the topics you want to focus on, such as “submission to your husband.”

2. Know your market niche or target audience.

I have already given a specific example of the market above. “Married Christian Women” is the main thing in the market. You should be as specific and narrow as possible so that it is easy to write and market the book.

If you’re writing about financial planning, you need to know who your target market is. Not to say it’s for everyone. You have to be really interested in it and determine who needs it. What gender … age bracket … social status … religious beliefs?

3. Write an outline and work from there.

When writing an outline, start with the main topics first. Then fill in the subtopics. Let me use “Married Christian Women” as an example again and focus on submission to husbands.

A Biblical Guide to the Role of a Wife in Marriage

Entered

Adaptation

Gentle and quiet Spirit

Proverbs 31 woman

Problems Christian Wives Face

Unfaithful husband

A leading husband

A violent husband

A non-Christian husband

Alcoholism and drug addiction

Request boundaries

In which field to apply?

In which fields can not apply

Difficulties in applying

When the wife is the breadwinner

When the husband is unfaithful

When the husband is not saved

When the husband is physically abusive

When the husband is addicted to drugs and / or alcohol

Application fulfillment

How it changes a husband

How it promotes humility

How it sets a great example for her husband

It is a hindrance to wide construction

An independent spirit

Lack of respect

The foundation of faith is weak

Extreme difference

Practical guidelines for submission

What to do with an independent spirit

Treat your husband with respect

Adapt your approach to your husband’s approach

From here you can continue to add more subtopics. Once your outline is clear, writing becomes easier. You already have a guide, so it just flows smoothly.

4. Come up with an interesting title.

Your headline should be relevant to the time frame, target market, and topic. It should be easily understood by your target audience. When people look at it, they should have a clear idea of what the book is about, but it should still hold some mystery.

The following are examples of my “Married Christian Wives” examples.

Help! I don’t know how to report. Practical Biblical Guidance for Your Husband

I only … Practical Biblical Guidance for Your Husband

5. Have a plan.

Don’t start writing a book without a plan. This is the only way you can stick with it and increase your chances of success.

Your plan should include the entire timeline from writing to selling your book. I suggest you work backwards. Start with the time you want to market your book and work backwards.

Publication can take about a month or two after manuscript submission, or even longer. If you have an editor who is separate from your publisher, you should include that in your schedule. I give my clients more than 3-4 weeks depending on the size of the book revision. If your publisher will do the marketing for you, ask them how long it will take from publication to launch. If you’re going to do your own marketing, you’ll need to consider where you’ll be promoting your book, how long it will take for those places and visitors.

Book promotion covers pre-launch, actual launch, and post-launch. The pre-launch phase is all about introducing your book to an audience that is interested and eager. The actual launch is the big launch that introduces your book to the public. Before that, you should take care of press releases, invitations and other preparations. Starting an article requires more sales, including talks, interviews and other means of promotion.

You should be able to write a different day, time and place every day than all the plans in your book.

Your plan should also include your budget.

6. Explore your publishing options.

There are several publishing options available these days. Your only option is to submit your manuscript to a publisher, and if they like it, they will print it.

Here is a list of things a publisher can do for you. Find out what you can do yourself or what you can outsource. Be smart and creative.

I offer proofreading, editing, and publishing services to my clients. This means that when we submit our work to a publisher, they will only do the final editing before the text layout and design. This may or may not save you money depending on the publisher you are going to use. I have two publishers on my list that I can recommend depending on where you live. I feel very comfortable working with these people.

7. Develop your marketing strategy.

This will be part of the plan and will only apply to those who want to do their own marketing. This includes “where”, “how” and “when”. Where do you plan to market your book? How do you intend to do this? When do you plan to do it?

With all this in mind, it is clear that writing a book is not an easy task. However, by following these guidelines, your book can become the next bestseller.

God bless your efforts!
