Learning to Love Like Jesus Christ

Welcome

Hello and welcome. I’m glad you came to learn more about how God’s love works and how you can share it with others. If you are not a believer but want or are interested in learning about the love that Jesus has to offer, I encourage you to come along. First, I want to share a little bit about myself.

My walk with God

I grew up in a Christian family, but my parents were divided. My father is Baptist and my mother is Catholic. Don’t get me wrong, my parents love each other very much and are very devoted followers of Christ, they just worship differently. Even though I grew up in a Christian family, I never understood God, how He loved me, or anything. I think it was too much for me as a kid to go back and forth between the two churches, like a game of two-man catch. Anyway, as I grew into my teenage years, I stopped trying to figure it out. In fact, I started to get angry with God and blame him for everything bad that was happening in the world. I didn’t like God and I didn’t like church.

When I was about 18, I loved parties, and they weren’t your grandmothers tea parties. I was going through a couple of rough relationships at the time and I was starting to get really down on myself. I start to think the worst and beat myself up over relatively small things. I’ve reached rock bottom. That’s when I went to the one person who was always there for me when I needed her the most. My mother usually made me happy, but this time was different. He just wanted me to listen and keep an open heart as he prayed for me. Even though my parents spent their entire lives teaching me about God, that night was the first time I truly felt His love. That night I gave my life to God and accepted Jesus as my Savior and Lord. After that week, I started dating my beautiful wife, Heather, who has been one of my best friends for 4 years in front of me. I started attending Brookview Community Church in Lynnwood, Washington and have been developing a deeper relationship with God ever since.

Accepting God’s love for you

God’s love is a free gift that we must accept. You are offered a gift, but it is up to you to accept and open it. Luke 23: 40–43 “But the other criminal rebuked him. He said, ‘Do you not fear God, because you are suffering the same punishment?’ the man has done nothing wrong.” And he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into the kingdom.” Jesus answered him, “I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise.” He was crucified next to Jesus and realized that Jesus was the Messiah. Now God had already given that man love, but only then did he accept that love and open the gift. The man who was hanged next to Jesus was a criminal who did everything. Despite the crimes he was punished for, Jesus gave him love anyway and assured him that they would be together in heaven.

It takes no effort to receive a gift, right? We have to be willing to do that. A gift is something that is given freely. Be with Jesus like the man who hung on the cross and receive the gift of God’s love. Take Jesus into your heart and follow him. Accepting his gift is the first step in learning to love like Jesus Christ. The second step can be a bit tricky!

Sharing God’s love with others

Galatians 5:14 says, “The whole law is summed up in one commandment: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.'” So if this is the law, who is your neighbor? Everyone! This is very difficult because not everyone lives by this law. We honor God when we love our neighbor. If someone treats you badly, walk away or give them a word of encouragement.Don’t treat them or be rude. This is what I struggle with the most. feel the increase. Come to think of it, it doesn’t do any good. What’s the point of fighting with them? If someone’s upset, the best way to love them is to be upbeat and give them space to cool off. If they’re cold, you talk to them. Another thing you can do is pray for them.

Sharing God’s love isn’t just about giving people space when they’re angry, it’s about showing that you care about the community in which you live. If you have the financial means, you can donate to a local charity or your local church. Tell a friend or co-worker they look great. If you are in a restaurant or something and you see someone who is belittling you, you can tell the waiter that you will pay for that person’s meal and have the waiter make a sign that says, “God loves you.” There are so many ways to show God’s love to people and shine His light. I suggest making a list of different things you can do, maybe checking a few things off your list each week.

Conclusion

Here it is. Accept God’s love and share God’s love. You can’t have one without the other. If you have not received God’s love, how can you share it? Don’t share what you don’t have until you receive the free gift. God is waving it before you, so just reach out and take it. Just like a child at Christmas, unwrap that gift and embrace it with all the joy inside. You will be full of love, and you will need to spread it in all areas of your life.

Thank you so much for reading. I hope you found this article useful and life-changing! I encourage you to read the Bible and find out what Jesus went through so that we can be with Him. Learn the power of God and try to apply what you learn from it in your life. Have a wonderful day. God bless you!
