Your Responsibility With Your Personal Prophecy – What the Bible Says

Paul tells us what to do about prophecy in Thessalonians. Regarding corporate prophecy in the church and personal prophecy for you, Paul makes it clear that we are to test all things and do more. This short article is about our personal prophecies.

In Thessalonians, Paul first says that we are not to ignore prophecy. This means that the church is told that personal prophecy and corporate prophecy should be allowed in the church, and that those with prophetic gifts should be encouraged to act.

If the church has a problem with prophecy, they should bring rules and codes of conduct for prophets, including oversight and accountability, and instead stop all prophecy. If the church forbids prophecy, they are acting outside the will of God and the clear instructions of the Apostle Paul in the Bible.

Paul said, “All things must be tested.”

Just because a personal prophecy comes from someone who is very experienced in prophecy does not mean that they will all seem to make sense or be correct. Paul advises us to check each prophecy against the Bible, to see if it seems true to a mature person, and to take other measures.

Then Paul says that we must “keep what is good.”

This means that we should keep all the pieces of personal prophecy that ring in our souls and feel right and pray for them to come true in our lives. If there are parts of a prophecy that don’t ring true or that we don’t think are right, we shouldn’t use them to say that the whole prophecy is wrong, but simply explain the parts that we don’t understand or that we think are true. put the wrong aside and leave the rest.

Many people read a part of a prophecy and feel it is wrong, and discard the whole thing saying that personal prophecies cannot be trusted and that the prophet is a false prophet. This practice is foolish and completely contrary to what Paul is teaching here. Test all things, and keep the good, Paul says that there may be “bad parts” in the prophecy.

I hope this clears some things up in your mind.
