The 55 Days of Christmas? Twelve Survival Tips!

Have you noticed the Christmas decorations popping up around Halloween? Got a chill down your spine? The holiday season seems to be getting longer and shorter. Yes, short. See what your expectations are this season. Countess MarthaRachelNigelaPaula Fifty-five days is close enough to FoodNetwork perfection. I don’t know if I meet the Real Simple standards.

So much to do! Have you run out of cards? Have you shopped till you’re on Black Friday? Have you made a great decoration out of recycled materials? Have you picked out the perfect gift for everyone on your list? Do you have color-matched paper, labels, or ribbon? Can you tie the perfect bow?

When will you have your holiday party? What will you serve? What would you wear to other people’s events? Do you know what to give your hairdresser? What is a politically correct holiday greeting? So many questions, so little time!

The holiday madness really began when I visited a friend for Thanksgiving. She decided she didn’t like cooking, so she ordered from her local supermarket. And began to fall in love. It won’t taste very good. It would not be enough. Turkey, cranberry sauce, whole wheat rolls, roasted pumpkin, mashed potatoes, and pumpkin pie were clearly not enough for five people. We added extra sides – homemade cranberry sauce, candied chestnuts, fruit pulp, baked onions, candied candy, baked candy, peas with fresh mushrooms, and three pies. Oh, and at the last minute, she ran to get the turkey breast.

Everything tasted good and we all had a great time, but it made me think about how easily we can succumb to holiday excess.

So how do you spend your vacation in peace? Here are some simple tips.

1. Just like Santa Claus, make a list and check it twice. When checking, do a little reality check. Are you buying gifts for too many people? Are you planning to spend an unrealistic amount of money on each one? Have you burdened yourself with things you can’t find? (No, my cousin probably won’t be getting that antique fruit bowl this year.)

2. Only accept invitations that make you happy. If that means no, then do it! If it can’t be broken before, there’s always a reason to justify it. No one should know that getting engaged involves your couch.

3. Wear comfortable clothes. Always. Don’t let tight shoes or a questionable collar ruin your fun.

4. Buy comfortable shoes. Carry your wallet in a place that is easy for you to reach and difficult for others to reach. Don’t overload yourself with too many packages.

5. Buy online. Gifts, dinners, cards, orders – all just a click away.

6. If you need to send a package, remember that the postal service will pick up the package at your home.

7. Do not bake unless you have serious depression if you are inexperienced. If you bake, set limits. I will never have more cookies than I can fit on the kitchen table again.

8. It’s for next year. Get exciting gifts throughout the year. If you’re traveling, this is a great way to get a truly unique gift. Don’t forget where you put them. Last year I gave away several beautiful items I bought in Sicily three years ago. I will place them in a safe place. At least they came out.

9. Simplicity is very elegant. Repeat this twenty times and then start reducing your plan.

10. Gift cards are great. Do you want to give the perfect gift? Not only are gift cards perfect, but you can also stash them in your carry-on.

11. Travel lights. Carry medications, jewelry, one-ounce bottles, or liquids you need. Wear something comfortable and stylish so you’re well prepared in case you lose your luggage.

12. Set aside time in your calendar to do nothing but take care of yourself, whether it’s watching a movie, meditating, getting a massage, or just taking a nap. Pace yourself.
